Field Repair
    Serial Port Modification

The following information details how to facilitate the fix for Remote Control discrepancies in DigiCart/II. These instructions do not apply to DigiCart/II Plus. Please pay close attention when you are disassembling the unit. Failure to do so will result in damage. Read all instructions before attempting this procedure.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: This modification to your DigiCart/II must be performed by qualified electronics personnel. Do not attempt this upgrade unless you have some experience working with electronics assemblies. You must follow the directions exactly to avoid any damage to the circuit board or components.

You will need the following tools and materials:
• A clean, flat work area
• A medium Phillips-head screwdriver
• A medium flat blade screwdriver
• Small diagonal cutters

CAUTION

Electric Shock Hazard
To protect against injury or electric shock, and to ensure against damage to the DigiCart/II you must disconnect the unit from AC power.

Static Sensitive Components
Components on the circuit boards may be damaged by static electricity carried on your fingers and tools. To avoid damage to components, always touch the metal chassis before touching the surface of the circuit boards.

PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the two 4x40 pan head screws from either side of the CPU PCB rear panel.
2. Remove the CPU PCB from the chassis. If extractor tools are not available, you may use a flat blade screw driver between the rear panel and the chassis housing -- a slight twist will release the board.
3. Locate U10 and U42 in the lower left hand corner of the board. Using the small diagonal cutters, clip U10 pin 9 and U42 pin 11. If the ICs are in sockets, you may remove them and bend the pins out of the way.
4. Reinstall the CPU PCB in the chassis being careful not to dislodge the cable running to the ADC board. Secure the PCB with the two 4x40 screws removed in step 1.
